28 Months

Abby turned 28 months (2y4m) last 20th December 2016.

Weight
12.3 kg

Height/Length
Around 89-90cm.

Teeth
Still 16 pearly whites.

Motor Skills
  • Loves to put on mommy’s watch and necklace.
  • Has the strength to carry her baby bath basin to which she called ‘bash-in’ and placed it under the water outlet.
  • Can peel a banana (021216).
  • A little problem solver. When the float she used for ‘Baby Shark’ dancing and singing kept sliding down her waistline, she decided to get a spring and wrapped it across her waistline before placing the float above it. Tadaa! The float simply stay in place throughout her dancing session :P (021216)
  • Loves to request for a ‘piggy back’ session and happily ‘riding’ on her daddy’s back.
  • Loves to pretend herself as Humpty Dumpty by sitting at the edge of the bed/sofa before falling herself to a soft ground.
  • First introduced to scissor by her church jie-jie on 041216 and mommy finally approved to buy her a scissor of her own (091216). This girl was soo happy and non-stop exclaiming ‘Thank you mommy scissor, cute cute baby scissor’. :)
  • She has been looking forward to cutting labels/taggings on new cloths since (191216).

Communication and Social Skills
  • Words she can pronounce: watch, necklace, kitten (the way she called her kitty lately), “lee uf” (love), pocket, “bohh” (bowl), “bee-kert” (biscuit), chicken wing, church.
  • Simple clauses she can come up with: wipe floor, read books, cut ‘feet’ (toe nails) LOL, ‘make farm’ (requesting me to set up a ‘farm’ for her to place her Usborne farm animal toobs inside.
  • Other simple sentences she can form “sook-sook watch(es) TV”
  • Whenever she sees a wall, she would say “Humpty sits on a wall”
  • Can barely mention words with ‘s-es’ sound except for “books”.
  • Recognizes cars and houses. She can tell whose car and point it to the respective vehicle accurately.
  • She would request us to sing a song/rhythms by dropping hints like “mommy sing bus (The wheels on the bus) followed by ‘baby’, ‘mommy’ / (Five little Monkeys) – with jump/knock/bump indicating me to change the item in the lyrics as we came along, “sing yes papa (Johnny Johnny yes papa)”, “sing rain, rain, go away”.
  • Among the areas/places, she can name: bedroom, toilet.
  • Calls wallet/purse/angpaos as “ah pao”. Come to think about it, they do rhyme alike in Hakka :P.
  • She is getting very good at pretend play. She loves pretending herself as ‘mommy’. One day, she called out “ah-mee, milk milk” and as usual I would reply “Wait!” without noticing that she was in the midst of her pretend-play. She stopped me from making her milk and patted on her chest by telling me that she was the “ah-mee” for that moment :P (051216).
  • I have never deliberately taught her about numbers nor alphabets just yet, but she has a set of flash and wooden alphabets and numbers which she loved messing up with. This indirect learning has gained her to the recognition towards the number 4, 6 and 8 and some alphabets like O and some others (mistaken R as P) – 061216. On another occasion, the alphabet ‘O’ on her playmat was missing and she has been searching for it and said: “Where are u ‘O’?” :P
  • Likes to call out “ah-meeeeee” loud while going up the stairs when daddy is walking her up the stairs, and vice versa when I goes up the stairs with her.
  • There was an incident when My other hand was holding the handphone while nursing her on the same side. She requested me to “lie down hand” (put down my hand cum handphone).
  • We were in the midst of potty training her. She was doing all good during day time with constant reminders. But, there was once when she has gotten too engrossed with deh-deh’s Ipad, she refused to pee and eventually peed on the bed. When I summoned her to take off the sheet and mattress protector, she told me that the mattress is wet too. Hence, I questioned her how are we supposed to dry and carry the gigantic mattress. She replied by saying “use that one” (pointing at my hairdryer).
  • She has been using ‘It’ so frequently on something she couldn't name accurately– “Fix it, close it, open it, knock it”.
  • When she is asked about the whereabout of something, she would go for the all-time-answer “Over there” despite the item she intend to address is right on her palm :P
  • When asked how-to, she would always go for answer “like this”.

Emotional Development
  • She is a rather stubborn little girl. It doesn't work when I threaten to not give her the sticker books which she adores so much and initially kept asking me to buy when she misbehaved. In return, she replied “mm moi (meaning don’t want in Hakka) sticker books, throw away” (131216). Fingers crossed this is just another phase.
  • She could get a little gabby when she sees new faces coming over to Ah Tai’s place. Yee-poh came for a visit and this was their first time meeting each other. She refused to go home. Instead, she asked “ah-mee and deh-deh” to “go away” (go home) - 131216.

Food and Feeding
  • Likes Jacob oat biscuit (round type) just because it fits in perfectly into the condiment sauce plate (301116).
  • She is still very fond of Kinder Joy’s Surprise Egg. She could trade in or forego almost anything for it.
  • She loves almost everything dark/black from chocolate ice-cream, dark chocolate, dishes in soy sauce.

Records
  • Watched Finding Dory (halfway through on 221116) during our Movie Night as was so excited seeing dory and she recognizes them whenever we chanced upon dory toys/advertisement.
  • Books she loves for bedtime story are The pink Pyjamas, Disney-How does a telephone work, Doctor for a day.
  • She was mildly scalded by hot water when the boss was carrying a cup of tea with him and carrying her on another hand. She wiggled no stop with excitement before the incident took place. Nothing too bad except that her arm was reddish for a couple of days (111216).
  • Recognizes Pikachu (known as “kachoo”) and Spiderman (“spyer-man”).
  • Survived our second road trip (181216). Thank God!
  • She received her second set of ‘cut fruits toy’ from Daiso (201216).

Her Firsts
  • RE Excursion to their teacher’s residence who owns several types of animal like a mini zoo (201116).
  • Took a sip of her daddy’s espresso at Kelly’s Espresso and ordered for her own ‘chickin wing’ but unfortunately, only until the last minute after she got a little impatient, we were informed that her chicken wings were sold out (301116).
  • For the very first time, she allowed mommy to watch “Kubo and the two strings” till the end during our movie night (031216).
  • I managed to get her to sit on the potty for a few times in a couple of hours. Also managed to get her pee in the toilet for about 6 times (041216).
  • First learn about Tom the cat apps and she was very excited ‘talking’ to Tom (171216).

Sleeping Patterns
  • Still love lying and fall asleep on mommy’s arm. She would go with sentences like ‘sleep ah mee’s hand, no lie down’ ~ insisted on lying on my arm instead on lying down on the flat bed (081216).
  • Sometimes, she would request me to read her a book middle of the night when she had her milk fix. At times, I politely declined by telling her ‘it’s too dark’. When she is in her good mood, she would oblige and say “yes, dark” before going back to her slumber.

Paper & Pen

Whenever we are dining out or attending church services, I would usually pack Missy’s busy bag; from puzzles, wooden toys, fancy stationaries, books etc. In fact, she had no strong preference towards an item after another except for the tendency to look for her 'cut fruits toy' a couple of times when I didn't bring them out for church service. I just pack a variety and changes the item each time we go out. When she has friends about her age, she will be all fine and generously lending them and sharing theirs. But, when she being the only kid amongst adults, she would start getting restless pretty quick, and all the stuff I brought along for her to play with were usually short-lived.

But, it was rather exceptional last Friday when we attended a wedding banquet, she was rather cooperative and well-behaved and not to mention, she managed to sit almost throughout the session. All that kept her occupied were merely 2 pieces of pink florescant A4 papers and my Faber-Castell True Gel Colour (purple) pen I found in my bag. We spent a good time scribbling and drawing ‘Umpty Umpty’ (the way she calls Humpty Dumpty), tracing hand palms and had manicures too (drawing objects she fancies on her finger nails with the gel pen)! I have never expected that simple pleasures can come from just paper and pen or have I complicated things all these while? :P So, these were my ‘babysitter’ for the whole night hence they certainly worth a mention here :)

Baby Shark

This is a long overdued post. It is not something new that this little girl likes to move to music and dance. To be honest, the ‘Baby Shark’ heat has receded by now. This song has been a hit for her a couple of months back. Just for the record, the float (which was passed down to her and this Hong Kong made float was reputed to be of premium quality) has ruptured and recently successfully mended by her oh-so-creative grandaunt. Can you relate how often this float had been used as her prop to dance Baby Shark? This girl has developed a fondness towards Humpty Dumpty instead. Here's her dancing Baby Shark accompanied by music without action. She emulated the action from another version of Baby Shark series with action.
