21 Months

Abby turned 21months (1y9m) on 200516. She is only 3 months shy to 2yo. How time flies!

Weight
Around 9.5kg based on the rough estimation when we went up the analog scale together in the clinic (170516) after a bout of vomiting.

Height/Length
Not measured.

Teeth
Has 16 pearly whites. 8 upper teeth and another 8 lower teeth. Her central incisors, lateral incisors, canines and first molars have fully erupted.

Motor Skills
  • Able to kneel down on her knee with her palms wrapped during prayer (27042016). Nevertheless, this little busy body couldn't help but to ‘reprimand’ po-po for not kneeling down like others (due to joint pain) up to 3 times every night when the whole clan gets together, gradually decreased to  one time.
  • She is currently back to her previous favourite song, ‘Ring Around the rosy’. This time, she insisted to do it with full action by holding ther boss’ and my hand, turning around and drop herself on the mattress/bed.
  • Another all-time favourite of hers – ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’ with action but she is still coping up with the fast pace with the right limbs.
  • Loves to dance. She holds onto my hand when she needs a partner with Chicken Dance, Ring around the rosy song.
  • I attempted to teach her how to gargle and spit once but attempt failed. She chuckled all the way and find it very funny instead. When i handed her the cup of drinking water to gargle, she ended up drinking all of them.
  • Can and prefer to drink from a cup.
  • Loves musical instruments and pretending to play on them eloquently. At the moment, she has a mini Yamaha keyboard (handed down by her gu-gu), toy violin, a toy guitar, a toy xylophone to date.
Violinist wannabe

Communication and Social Skills
  • Taken a liking towards cars. These days, whenever we drop by JR House, she would run towards the car figurines section *thanks to her deh-deh*. Calls all sort of vehicles as poot-poot despite me teaching her to call them truck, car etc.
  • Her understanding towards the verb ‘knock’ is only limited to head bump at the moment – as she usually ‘knock’ her head towards po-po’s as a way for saying goodnight. Only reserved to both of them.  On another occasion, when i asked her to knock at the door for deh-deh to open the door, she head-bumped the door instead. *LOL*
  • Can fake –cry, fake-laugh.
  • Says ‘walk’ when she wants to walk on her own.
  • Other words she can say: see, down, up, ‘fa-woo’ (flower), ‘wee-dew’ (video) etc.
  • Still calling her fancy collection of stickers as ‘stick-stick’.

Emotional Development
  • Still showing dissatisfaction with both her arms crossed and face turned away. Fingers crossed that this is just a phase!

Food and Feeding
  • Taken a liking towards oranges and like them to be cut into wedges with rinds on.
  • She is rather ‘courageous’ in trying out new  food. There was once when we had century eggs for breakfast and she wanted to try. Upon her first bite, she spat them out immediately :P
  • Started to take junk foods like rice crackers, chocolate rice stick (under control) *sigh* Those were usually her reward after attending full session during Sunday classes in the church. There were chocolate dip, keropok and sometimes I have to toss it away when she didn't notice.

Her Firsts
  • First discovered her own shadow (210416). Learned about shadow and was fascinated to see her shadow in grey moving as she moves around.
  • Woke up with swollen lids (020516). We took quite some time to figure out the cause as we first suspected allergy. After some consultation from her doctor gu-gu via Whatsapp, she suggested me to do a hot compression to reduce the swelling and to try on cmc eyedrops followed by cmc ointment if necessary. Thank goodness the swell gradually went down after hot compression (with much struggle) :P
Swollen upper right & lower left eyelids

Sleeping Patterns
  • Since the night she was sick last 2 days, she has been sleeping on my arm next to me throughout the night and unlike other nights, she refused to be transferred to the mattress and would get up when we do so.
  • Still need video time before going to bed. Still, I am thankful as she no longer asked for video from our handphones anymore. I hope it lasts.
  • Lately, she willingly returns the tablet to me and put it into sleep mode before covering it without being asked and hugged me and asked for bob-bob, signifying time for bed. Again, I hope this is not just a phase :P

Records
  • Celebrated Mothers' Day for the second time.
  • Celebated Ah Tai's birthday on the 26th April 2016.
As happy as the birthday girl
  • To date, she has been attending 2 full sessions in RE class for the last two consecutive Sundays. She was granted a piece of attendance sticker each time. Students are asked to paste the stickers on the attendance board and she looked forward to this session these days. I hope it lasts :)
  • Down with a fever on 170516 with a bout of vomiting (first time). It was such a heartbreaking moment to see the bubbly girl to curl up sluggishly and looked very frail and weak. But, soon after she was given rectal suppository, she has stopped vomiting and was up and about again that night.
  • Her balls collection are expanding day after day and never get bored by having a ball of time with them everyday at Ah Tai's.

Third Anniversary ❤

Time flies, and this time, I did not forget our anniversary (190516). This round, I have actually made a ‘not-so-surprise’ plan by getting the boss a new bag online. The parcel arrived just timely but unfortunately, due to my mistake for not checking on its measurement, the bag appeared to be too small which could even hardly contain his Ipad mini. I will have to make a trip to the post office for an exchange. Also, the boss made a reservation in dunno-which-restaurant last night to which my cousin-in-law has spilled the beans just a couple of hours before our dinner. But, we had a change of plan in the end out of courtesy as we have a dinner at the in-law with the boss’ cousin from UK; Eirene, the twin sister of Abby’s Charissa gu-gu who visited last month. Afterall, it was a night full of warmth and love as the old and young had another opportunity to gather once again. Besides, it was my first time meeting up with Eirene.

To the boss, Happy Leather Anniversary and thanks for being a dear friend who tells the truth even if it hurts, a good listener for hearing my thoughts even on the silliest ones and understanding my dreams by giving me helpful hands and full support :P

20 Months

Abby turned 20 months (1y 8m) last 20th April 2016.

Weight
Not measured.

Height/Length
Around 82cm.

Teeth
Her lower and upper canine has fully erupted. First molars on her lower teeth are cutting through the gums.

Motor Skills
  • Whenever she sees water basin in her Leapfrog talking book, she would rub her palms together to gesture hand washing.
  • She finds it funny when I put eye patches under my eyes before bed. There was one she came across with a broken shade which coincidentally has the same color as my eye patch, she tilted her head and place the piece under her eye, exactly like how I put my eye patches on :P
  • Can finally gesture ‘good’ with her thumbs up (17042016). All these while, her ‘good’ was signalled with her index finger(s) pointing upwards.
  • Loves to play with her deh-deh's DSLR's tripod. She could spend almost an hour on it.
  • Likes to 'heawp' (i.e help) mommy by putting the laundry to the basket, transfering dough into the baking pan etc.
Photo taken at 20m1d old

Communication and Social Skills
  • The first to say ‘Amen’ upon hearing silence after we have said our prayer before meal and prayer with the family at Ah Tai before heading home. She also  says ‘Amen’ after I led her to give thanks before drinking her milk from the bottle.
  • Her understanding towards body parts (nose, eye, mouth, ears, head, hand, leg) has expanded to hair, teeth and fingers.
  • Calls out ‘jie-jie’ loud whenever the pair of kindergarten twins drop by MIL’s shop to look for her. It was so sweet of them to deliberately drop in the shop most of the time before heading to their kindy nearby.
  • Says ‘up’ when going up the stairs almost all the time and occasionally says ‘down’ when going down the stairs (sometimes saying ‘up’ when she goes down the stairs)
  • Able to say (and understand) words ending with y (i.e; smelly, kitty, dirty)
  • Other words she can say: milk, shake (during her attempt to dry her hands after washing), poot-poot (car), ‘mauu’(i.e mouse) when she sees Mickey Mouse print on her pyjamas, ‘to-to’ (for ‘gor-gor’ i.e brother) when she sees elder boy running around in the church.
  • She remembers which photo displayed at the church has her ‘gu-po’ and ‘gu-gu’ in it. Whenever we pass by the notice board, she would stop and point out ‘po’ (her ‘gu-po’ i.e grandaunt) and ‘tu-tu’ (her gu-gu i.e aunt).
  • From 'ta-ta', she is calling SIL 'ta-ge', or ocasionally 'ta-choo' (i.e tai-goo). SIL was of course over the moon :).

Emotional Development
  • She has developed leaps and bounds emotionally. She shows her fondness and generously hugs (willingly or being asked).
  • She can fake a cry whenever the adults showed concern after a minor fall or bang :P
  • Started showing signs of terrible two! Whenever we turn her down over something she wanted badly, she would go away and refuses that for good with both her arms crossed even though when we offer that to her after that.
  • There was once when I reprimanded her, she poured out all the Duplo parts from the box probably to vent her dissatisfaction and ran to her daddy for refuge.

Food and Feeding
  • Taken a liking towards oranges.
  • Loves yoghurt. She has been taxing our commercially bought yoghurt from time to time and first tasted mommy's homemade yoghurt (050416).
  • Loves all kind of soup and always ask for second, third and more helping all the time.
  • Loves po-po’s signature corn soup.

Her Firsts
  • First met Charissa gugu from UK and adores her from the first sight. Abby calls her ‘jie jie’ and that made her other ‘gu-gu(s)’ green in envy :P She even presented her coinbox to her gugu as momento (Mommy initially promised gu-gu to custom make a purple coinbox for her but unfortunately deh-deh’s 3D printer broke down)

Sleeping Patterns
It had been a month or so since we have implemented our bed time policy and adhering to it rather well. Upon getting home from Ah Tai around 8:30pm every night, our routine usually revolves around teeth brushing, pajama changing, some light activities (Duplo time, Leap frog LeapPad time, talking laptop), at least one page of her board books, video time of her selections as a reward and finally calling it off a day.

Records
  • Down with runny nose and registered a mild fever of 37C and thank God recovered pretty fast (090316)
  • Played with poster color but she doesnt seem to be very keen into it (040416).
  • Refused for haircut at the saloon even with much coaxing. Ended up her grandaunt took over the role during her shower time.
  • She has hit more than 10 nos of balls in her collection, big and small and still counting!
