Pre-Marital Health Screening

This is a very backdated post. I am one fainthearted when it comes to needles. Whenever it comes to needle pricking, and if not being forced by the lady doctor upon my mom’s reminder in Family Planning prior entering the university way back in 2007, I wouldn’t know which type of blood I belonged to until today. I was afraid to the extending of I don’t mind for not knowing my blood type despite my very high curiosity after living for 21 years (then). If pre-marital tests isn’t compulsory, I undoubtedly sure given it a miss! :P We only managed to fast for 10 hours and weren’t sure if that’s sufficient. The boss and I made went over to Pathlab for pre-marital health screening whereas the package covers HIV I and II screening, thalassemia, Hepatitis B, renal & liver function, Rubella IgG (female)  just to name a few.

Formalities were done very quickly and the boss’ name was called up before I started trembling with fear :) However, I was so glad that we went and the session was done in a jiffy on the 130113. The boss picked on me if I have actually gotten myself pricked or hid myself in the ladies just because he didn’t hear me groaning in deep pain! *roll eyes*.  Thereafter, we walked over for laksa lunch in Sinsuran which I have been craving for so long. I have taken several efforts to drop by this eatery on normal working lunch hours yet gave up after the horrendous congestion, which is a normal daily affair as a matter of factly along Centre Point-Sinsuran route.

Totally the opposite of me, the boss is very keen when I mentioned to him about the urgent pledge featured in the newspaper appealing for O blood donor doing some favor for a boy by the name Neowell Van Houtten, 12 who was apparently suffering from thalassemia major and requires a monthly blood transfusion. We drove to Likas Hospital right after our breakfast with the hope being able to play a little part to help. It took us quite a while to get to the right place after directed wrongly to different floors/rooms by some personnel including the mentioned patient’s ward. Upon reaching the blood bank, there was no one at the counter and we sneaked in to ask if the boss can have his donation. But, we were taken aback when the nurses who were busy chatting brushed us  off and asked us to return some other day which is impossible as the boss flew home the next morning. Nevertheless, we are glad that the boy is reported is now doing fine earlier this year :)

Back to our pre-marital test, the results came out 5 working days later, as per promised. All in all, it was quite a clean bill of health except for the borderline high LDL cholesterol (bad) for me and  borderline high uric acid for the boss. Admittedly after the check-up results came out, I have actually changed my perspective towards needle pricking :P I am secretly looking forward for more medical check ups in the future, at least biennially if not annually to make sure we achieve sparkling clean bill for general health medical check-ups. The boss sure is going to break into a guffaw and tickles me to death shall he sees this :P.  Now, one to-do item can be struck off from our big bucket of lists :). P/s: Time flies too quickly. We have less than a month to go now till we walk down the aisle (drafted  in April 2013)!
