My
hand itches to blog and I know I have been neglecting this blog of mine for too
long. I have been slacking way too far and as of now, I didn’t know where
should I pick up where I left off :P. I am torn between to blog about random
stuff or to blog chronologically, which requires me to jog my memory for the
past one year, since November 2011. To spare my
mind and energy concentrating with another two assignments on hand, I chose the
former. Besides, Instagram is my new playground now :P People who know me well
especially my family members, the boss, extended family members, friends and colleagues
know that I am lousy with driving. Papa quoted that “driving is an art” while I
find it more like an obligation :P. I got
my driver’s license after completing my highschool, 2 days shy before joining
National Service in Feb 2004 and conveniently inherited my mom’s manual
transmission Toyota Corolla. That was 8 years and 8 months back to be exact as of today
(post was drafted on 141012).
Unlike
many of my friends, I wasn’t ecstatic the moment I earned my license with one
time attempt and I wasn’t mentally prepared to drive on the road either. I do
drive occasionally prior to this but with a company and it has been my papa who
is willing to take over the duty all the time on a manual. I don’t remember if
I had driven alone with a manual vehicle before. In fact, I had never :P. But I
do remember vividly that there was once I was so eager to drive to the uni when
I first entered, simply because I haven’t got the hang about how the uni’s
shuttle bus works, or simply because I am such a scaredy-cat! :P I talked that
over to papa, and then he tested me several times. But, dad disallowed me and
he said that I wasn’t ready yet. But, once I got accustomed to the uni’s
shuttle bus, my mojo to drive was
buried until another four good years.
Afer
my graduation, papa realized that I have to pick up driving again before I
start to hunt for job. Thus, he has been training me very intensively. Earlier
this year, he got me a new poot-poot with auto transmission this round. I was
over the moon and I adored my new poot-poot car so much, simply because it was
mine. All mine :). It took me several months to practice maneuvering
this poot-poot car of mine before embarking the road all by my own. My driving mojo was elevated again but on the other
hand, I cringed upon the idea of getting across the
roundabout and making U-turning at a junction without a traffic light were
among my biggest fear and I have a number of daunting moments due to my
absent-mindedness, oblivion and very lousy sense-of-direction. A single post isn't sufficient to list 'em all :P. When
I started working in March 2012, I was still chauffeured-driven to work mostly
by my sis, papa and occasionally my mom. That time, my car served mainly as my
furry friend’s sleeping spot at home :)
On 2nd July 2012, I finally garnered up
just-enough courage to drive unaccompanied to work. Personally, I regarded that as a
huge milestone for myself. I remember vividly that I maintained fastest
at the speed of 60kmh and I didn’t even dare to switch on the radio throughout
the first week :P. As of now, I am slowly taking driving as a routine and
occasionally I will chauffeur my mom to work or to run some errands for papa.
They can now heave a sigh of relief in my opinion despite knowing that she
bears more stress as a passenger than being my driver. Hehehe. Not forgetting,
I can finally virtually pick the boss up from the airport whenever he comes
over instead of going up the cab together each time I picked him up and am looking forward to pick up some very important visitors in December :P What has not changed, I still keep up with the
habit to mute my radio upon approaching the city centre’s roundabout :P.
